Indian Pediatrician Binayak Sen Released on Bail; Appeal Process Ongoing April 2011 On April 18, 2011, the Supreme Court of India granted bail to Indian pediatrician and civil rights advocate Binayak Sen, who had been sentenced to life in prison in late December 2010. The court said there was no evidence for his conviction. Dr. Sen has appealed his sentence in the Chhattisgarh High Court, which, unfortunately, has a 10-year backlog of cases. The CHR, the H.R. Network, and 48 Nobel Laureates continue to follow the case closely and stand ready to lend further support to Dr. Sen and his family if needed.
