Elaine Oran, CHR Member
Elaine Oran is the TEES Eminent Research Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University. She is now also a visiting professor at the University of Maryland, Adjunct Professor at the University of Michigan, Senior Visiting Fellow at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Distinguished Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University in Beijing, and Senior Scientist Emerita at the US Naval Research Laboratory. Oran has a rich variety of research including work on chemically reactive flows, turbulence, numerical analysis, high-performance computing and parallel architectures, shocks and shock interactions, rarefied gases, and microfluidics, with applications to combustion, propulsion, astrophysical explosions and micro-sensor design. She is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, and is both an American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Fellow and an AIAA Honorary Fellow. She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) the American Physical Society (APS), and the Combustion Institute. She was a recipient of the APS Fluid dynamics Prize and the Zeldovich Gold Medal of the Combustion Institute.
