Dear MSP Grantee:
The National Academies and the National Science Resources Center are pleased to invite you and your MSP colleagues to participate in an interactive workshop on learning that will be held in Washington, D.C. on. March 7-9. (For registration and more information, please visit: http://www7.nationalacademies.org/msp/ )
The National Research Council’s 2000 report, How People Learn: Brain, Mind, Experience, and School: Expanded Edition (http://books.nap.edu/catalog/9853.html) will serve as the central focus of these sessions. Other activities illustrating how the research is synthesized in How People Learn and other NRC reports (e.g., Knowing What Students Know, Adding It Up) can be applied to the work being done by MSPs also will be a major theme of the workshop.
Participants will receive a free CD-ROM containing How People Learn and 12 other NRC education reports pertinent to human learning, cognition, reading and early childhood education, and the learning and teaching of mathematics and science. The agenda for the workshop, our goals and objectives, and a registration form are found on the following pages.
There is no registration fee for this workshop. We will also provide breakfast and lunches on the second and third days of the workshop. All other expenses incurred for travel, lodging, and dinners are the individual responsibility of each partnership project.
*** IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND OR ARE NO LONGER ASSOCIATED WITH THIS PROJECT, PLEASE FORWARD THIS MESSAGE TO AN MSP COLLEAGUE IN YOUR ORGANIZATION OR A PARTNERING ORGANIZATION.
Other workshops planned for this year will focus on human learning and cognition (repeats of this workshop), assessment of learning, and teacher education and professional development. The entire schedule of workshops for 2004 is available at: http://www7.nationalacademies.org/msp/ so your team can determine which team members would be most appropriate to participate in each workshop.
