What is the role of The National Academies?
In addition to the comprehensive and targeted awards, NSF made a small number of awards for capacity building projects that will focus on research, evaluation and technical assistance (RETA) for the MSP Learning Network. It is for this reason that the CFE and the NSRC are collaborating to provide a program of workshops that are based on the National Academies reports in education and that will assist MSP awardees and future applicants.
The content of these workshops will focus on recent and future reports published by the National Academies that are directly relevant to the work being conducted by the leaders of the MSP projects. Participants will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the research and policy issues contained in these reports and learn about emerging, evidence-based “best practices” in education that could be applied to their own project designs.
Two workshops each on two different topics (i.e., a total of four workshops in two workshop series) will be offered annually for three years. Annual reports of these workshops will be available electronically for dissemination to the mathematics and science education and to the education research and policy communities via the Internet.
