Lessons Learned from the Fukushima Nuclear Accident
for Improving Safety of U.S. Nuclear Plants

Requested by Congress in P.L. 112-74, this new report from the National Academies provides an assessment of the Fukushima nuclear accident in Japan and identifies findings and recommendations for improving nuclear plant safety and offsite emergency responses to nuclear plant accidents in the United States.

These briefings were for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on July 24, 2014 and can be found, in its entirety, on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
