Disposition of the Air Force Health Study
Final Report
In P.L. 108-183, the Institute of Medicine was asked by Congress to provide guidance on the future of the Air Force Health (or "Ranch Hand") Study, a long-term epidemiologic study of Air Force personnel who conducted aerial spraying of herbicides during the Vietnam War. This final report discusses whether the Air Force Health Study's data assets should be transferred to a new custodial organization that could make the materials available for ongoing research.
These briefings were for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on February 24, 2006 and can be found, in its entirety, on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
