Ballistic Imaging

A new report from the National Research Council assesses whether creating a national database of ballistic images from all new and imported guns in the U.S. would be feasible and effective. Such a database has been proposed to help investigators link bullets or cartridge casings found at crime scenes to the weapons from which they were fired.

These series of briefings were for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on March 5, 2008 and can be found, in its entirety, on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
