Broadband: Bringing Home the Bits

Broadband technologies -- including DSL (digital subscriber line), cable modem, wireless, fiber optics, and satellite -- are providing residences and small businesses with high-speed Internet access. This report, by the National Academies' Committee on Broadband Last Mile Technology, examines the technologies, policies, and strategies associated with broadband connectivity and recommends ways to foster its wider deployment.

This briefing was for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on November 29, 2001 and can be found, in full, on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
