Charting the Future of Methane Hydrate Research in the United States
Congressionally mandated in P.L. 106-193, this new report from the National Academies reviews a U.S. Department of Energy program that is exploring the possibility of using methane hydrate trapped beneath the seafloor as an energy source. It also looks at how this greenhouse gas would contribute to climate change.
These series of briefings were for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on September 16, 2004 and can be found, in its entirety, on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
