Management and Effects of Coalbed Methane Produced Water in the United States
Requested by Congress in P.L. 109-58, this new report examines how water produced during the extraction of coalbed methane -- a form of natural gas -- is treated, used, stored, and disposed. The report also analyzes the water's effects on surface and groundwater resources in the western United States.
This briefing was for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on August 6, 2010 and can be found, in its entirety, on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
