A new report from the Institute of Medicine, ENDING NEGLECT: THE ELIMINATION OF TUBERCULOSIS IN THE UNITED STATES, reviews the current state of tuberculosis mortality, morbidity, and prevention/control efforts in the United States; lays out an action plan to accelerate the decline in new cases; and proposes a set of recommendations for local, state, and federal governments as well as the private sector. Finally, the report recommends a more active involvement by the United States in the global tuberculosis control effort.
