A new report from the National Academies, Laying the Foundation for Space Solar Power assesses NASA's strategy for investing in research and technology necessary to generate electricity from solar power in space. It evaluates how well the investment strategy meets program objectives, and identifies the most critical technologies, opportunities for collaboration, and gaps that need filling in order for NASA to demonstrate technologies necessary to field a full-scale system.

This briefing was for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on September 24, 2001 and can be found, in its entirety, on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
