Levees and the National Flood Insurance Program: Improving Policies and Practices
The Federal Emergency Management Agency manages the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which helps communities prepare for, mitigate against, and recover from flood disasters. This report from the National Academies examines how levees are addressed in the NFIP and advises how to improve program efficiency and effectiveness.
These series of briefings were for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on March 20, 2013 and can be found, in its entirety on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
