Requested by Congress in the Balance Budget Act of 1997 (PL 105-33) Medicare Laboratory Payment Policy: Now and In the Future reviews the status of Medicare payments for laboratory services and makes 12 recommendations for changes. It describes the laboratory industry, developments in testing, the current payment system and goals for the future of the system.
