The Mental Health and Substance Use Workforce for Older Adults:
In Whose Hands?
By 2030, more than 72 million Americans will be 65 or older. This report, requested by Congress in P.L. 111-117, projects the types and level of mental health and substance abuse care that will be needed by the nation’s rapidly aging population and offers policy recommendations to meet those needs with a competent and well-trained mental health work force.
These series of briefings were for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on July 10, 2012 and can be found, in its entirety, on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
