Progress Toward Restoring the Everglades:
The Fourth Biennial Review, 2012
by
WILLIAM G. BOGGESS, Oregon State University, Corvallis, and Chair, Committee on Independent Scientific Review of Everglades Restoration Progress
CHARLES T. DRISCOLL, Syracuse University, New York, and Member, Committee on Independent Scientific Review of Everglades Restoration Progress
JEFFREY R. WALTERS, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, and Member, Committee on Independent Scientific Review of Everglades Restoration Progress
The Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) was approved by the U.S. Congress in the 2000 Water Resources Development Act (WDRA 2000). WRDA 2000 required the formation of an independent scientific review panel “to review the Plan’s progress toward achieving the natural system restoration goals of the Plan.” Since 2004, the National Research Council’s Committee on Independent Scientific Review of Everglades Restoration Progress has worked to produce biennial reports to Congress. The committee’s fourth report, Progress Toward Restoring the Everglades: The Fourth Biennial Review, 2012, provides an updated assessment of restoration progress and reviews scientific support for decision making, programmatic issues that may impact progress, and the implications of recent system trends.
This briefing was for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on June 21, 2012 and can be found, in its entirety, on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
