Ethical and Scientific Issues in Studying the Safety of Approved Drugs
Though all prescription drugs are tested in clinical trials before they are available to the public, the risks of some drugs may not appear until much later. This new report, from the Institute of Medicine, evaluates the scientific and ethical issues involved in conducting studies of the safety of approved drugs.
This briefing was for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on May 1, 2012 and can be found, in its entirety, on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
