Tests and Teaching Quality: Interim Report
In response to increased interest in tests for teachers, the U.S. Department of Education asked the National Research Council (NRC) to study the issue. The NRC convened the Committee on Assessment and Teacher Quality, which has begun an investigation of the technical, educational, and legal issues surrounding the use of tests for licensing teachers and alternative methods that could be used to measure the quality of both prospective and current teachers. This report, focusing on existing tests and their use, announces the Committee's interim findings to update the Department on the progress of the 20-month study.
A series of briefings for members of Congress and congressional staff only were held on March 6. The report was publicly released on March 7, 2000.
