Tires and Passenger Vehicle Fuel Economy:
Informing Consumers, Improving Performance -- Special Report 286
Requested by Congress in P.L. 108-199, this new National Academies’ report examines how tires on passenger vehicles affect fuel consumption, and looks at prospects for improving the energy performance of tires without reducing endurance, handling, and traction.
This briefing was for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on April 4, 2006 and can be found in its entirety, in PDF, on the Web site of the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies.
