Veterans and Agent Orange: Herbicide/Dioxin Exposure and Type 2 Diabetes
This new report, from the Institute of Medicine's Committee to Review the Evidence Regarding the Link Between Exposure to Agent Orange and Diabetes, provides an updated review and evaluation of the available scientific evidence regarding an association between exposure to the herbicides used in Vietnam or dioxin and Type II (adult-onset) diabetes. While the report stops short of making a clear link, it does state that new evidence supports the possibility of an association.
This was the first in a series of briefings held for Members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on October 11, 2000 and is available in its entirety, online, through the National Academy Press.
