Critical Needs for Research in Veterinary Science assesses the laboratory facilities, funding levels, and number of veterinary scientists needed to pursue research priorities in this field.

Animal Health at the Crossroads: Preventing, Detecting, and Diagnosing Animal Diseases recommends ways to strengthen the nation's framework for preventing and detecting diseases in animals, and suggests steps for raising the public's awareness of the risks posed by animal diseases. The health of imported exotic animals also is discussed.
