2007 Service Retiree
Health Insurance Options
If You Are NOT Eligible For Medicare Benefits
As an official Service Retiree who has not attained age 65 and is not eligible for Medicare, you have a choice of health insurance coverage. Both options are the same as those offered to active employees and if you are eligible for a portion of the insurance premium to be paid by the National Academies, it will be at the same cost sharing as for active employees. Any eligible family member must elect the same health care option.
When you become eligible for Medicare, you must sign up for Medicare Part A and B and pay for Medicare Part B. The National Academies offer retiree health insurance coverage that provides benefits after Medicare pays its portion.
Kaiser Permanente, HMO health insurance option. As a health maintenance organization (HMO), Kaiser offers integrated medical, prescription drug, vision and dental benefits through Kaiser providers and facilities. You must live in the HMO service area, to elect this option. You must live in the HMO service area, to elect this option.
