Retirement Plans Sponsored By The National Academies
There are two retirement plans offered to employees of the National Academies. As a current retiree, you may have begun to withdraw your retirement benefits. Federal law requires that you begin distribution no later than the year in which you attain age 70 ½.

Primary Retirement Plan (PRP)

The Primary Retirement Plan is available to all benefit eligible employees. During your active employment with the National Academies, contributions to this retirement plan were made on your behalf.

All contributions to this retirement plan were made by the National Academies and are 100% vested. Benefits are taxable to you when withdrawn from the plan. To receive a benefit from this plan, you may choose from several withdrawal options.

All investment options for the Primary Retirement Plan are offered through a variable annuity with TIAA-CREF.

Voluntary Retirement Plan (VRP)

The National Academies offers a 403(b) voluntary retirement plan to its employees. During your active employment you may have contributed to the Salary Reduction Contribution Retirement Plan, known as the Voluntary Retirement Plan.

All contributions to this retirement plan were made directly by employees and are 100% vested. Benefits are taxable to you when withdrawn from the plan. To receive a benefit from this plan, you may choose from several withdrawal options.
