Globalization of Innovation: Emerging Trends in Information Technology, Biopharmaceuticals, and Financial Services.

To better understand the changing terms of global competition at the industry and firm levels, the STEP Board commissioned papers on 11 industries ranging from semiconductors to biotechnology to venture capital.

They are concentrated in 3 sectors -- information technology (software as well as hardware), life sciences-based industries, and financial services. The authors are academics affiliated with Sloan Foundation-funded research and teaching centers at various universities; and the focus of their research has been on geographical shifts in the locus of innovative activity -- the development, commercialization, and diffusion of new products and processes.

A volume of papers edited by Jeffrey Marcher and David Mowery will be released latter this year.
