Industry-Laboratory Partnerships:
A Review of the Sandia Science and Technology Park Initiative
In the post-Cold War era, one of the challenges that Sandia National Laboratories faces is how to meet changing mission requirements in a constrained budget environment at a time of rapid technological change. Partnering with private industry is one strategy that Sandia has employed to meet these challenges, and developing a science and technology park is one approach to partnering proposed by Sandia. Asked to review this initiative by Sandia's leadership, the STEP Board convened prominent policymakers from Capitol Hill and the Executive Branch, as well as leading regional economists and representatives from the private sector, to critically appraise the park concept and its rationale and plans, and to identify potential operational and policy issues.
This project was highlighted by a conference held on 22 April 1998. The agenda and participants list are available below. The conference provided the basis for a summary report on the Sandia S&T Park Initiative, entitled, Industry-Laboratory Partnerships: A Review of the Sandia Science and Technology Park Initiative.
