Workshop on Linking Mandatory Professional Development

with High Quality Teaching and Learning

The focus of this workshop was to gather information about and explore issues around the status of mandatory professional development in the nation’s public schools. Participants included TAC members and associates from 12 states, representatives from NSF, the U.S. Department of Education, NSTA, NCTM, NEA, AFT, ASCD, and other professional organizations. Panel discussions and presentations included information abut current research on professional development, exemplary mandatory professional development programs, and the future of mandatory professional development. Additional presentations covered topics related to professional development such as the career continuum, school culture and professional learning communities, and economic policy.

This project was conducted under an award from the National Science Foundation as part of the Research, Evaluation, and Technical Assistance component of the Math/Science Partnerships Initiative (Award # EHR-0236511).
