17th INQUA Congress
The 17th congress of the International Union for Quaternary Research was held in Cairns, Australia, July 28-August 3, 2007. Held every four years, the congress is the largest gathering of scientists studying the Quaternary period and the ideal venue to learn about the latest research from around the world on topics as diverse as ice ages and global warming, corals, climate change, and human evolution.
U.S. Committee Meetings
The meetings of the U.S. National Committee for Quaternary Science are by invitation only. During its most recent meeting held December 11, 2007, in San Francisco, CA, the committee discussed the International Year of Planet Earth initiative of the International Union of Geological Sciences, the committee’s relationship to the other earth sciences USNCs, a teaching symposium on ice core research to be held just prior to the 2008 AMQUA meeting in Pennsylvania, and ideas for upcoming symposia and activities.
The next meeting of the USNC/INQUA will be held on June 1-2, 2008, in State College, PA prior to the 2008 AMQUA meeting.
