2009 Leopold Leadership Program:
Opportunities for Mid-Career Academics
The Leopold Leadership Program invites mid-career academic environmental scientists from North America (Canada, Mexico, and the United States) to apply for the 2009 Leopold Leadership Fellowships. Up to 20 Fellows are selected annually to participate in an intensive training program designed to build and enhance their skills in communicating with policy makers, media representatives, business leaders, nonprofit organizations, and the general publics. Global Launch of the International Year of Planet Earth (IYPE)
The International Year of Planet Earth was officially launched at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris last month by an event co-organized by the IYPE Corporation and the National Committee of the IYPE in France, together with IUGS and UNESCO.

International Polar Year (IPY)

Quaternary Science
Quaternary scientists study the history of the Earth’s natural environment during the Quaternary Period—the roughly 2 million year interval during and since the Pleistocene ice ages—to improve understanding of the processes by which the environment has changed and to enhance forecasting of future changes.
Who We Are…
The U.S. National Committee for the International Union for Quaternary Research (USNC/INQUA) promotes the advancement of Quaternary science in the United States and throughout the world by participating on behalf of the U.S. scientific community in the International Union for Quaternary Research (INQUA).
INQUA is a member union of the International Council for Science (ICSU) that serves to build global interaction among Quaternary research communities.
