The U.S. National Committee for the Geological Sciences (USNC/IUGS) promotes the advancement of geological sciences in the United States and throughout the world by participating on behalf of the U.S. scientific community in the activities of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), a member union of the International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU).
The USNC/IUGS represents the National Academy of Sciences and operates within the Board on International Scientific Organizations (BISO) of the Policy and Global Affairs Division.

Oslo to Host 33rd IGC
IUGS, in collaboration with the National IUGS Committees in the five Nordic countries of Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Sweden, will hold the 33rd International Geological Congress in Oslo, Norway in August 6-14, 2008. The 2008 Congress theme will be: “Earth System Science: Foundation for Sustainable Development.” IGC registration is currently open. Visit the IGC website for additional information.
