U.S. Psychological Societies and Associations
The following societies and associations each send one representative to USNC/IUPsyS committee meetings to serve as liaisons between the two groups and update the USNC/IUPsyS on current activities.
American Psychological Association (APA)
Objects are to advance psychology as a science and profession and as a means of promoting health, education, and human welfare.
American Psychological Society (APS)
Mission is to promote, protect, and advance the interests of scientifically oriented psychology in research, application, teaching, and the improvement of human welfare.
Psychonomic Society
Promotes the communication of scientific research in psychology and allied sciences and exchange of information among scientists.
Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD)
Purposes of the society are to promote multidisciplinary research in the field of human development, to foster the exchange of information among scientists and other professionals of various disciplines, and to encourage applications of research findings.
Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP)
Goals are to further the generation and dissemination of research in personality and social psychology.
The Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI)
Seeks to bring theory and practice into focus on human problems of the group, the community, and nations, as well as increasingly important problems that have no national boundaries.
In addition to the societies listed above, which represent the U.S. psychological community as a whole, there are also State and Provincial Psychological Associations.
International Unions and Organizations
The International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS) is one of 27 unions that make up the International Council for Science (ICSU).
