The U.S. National Committee for Mathematics (USNC/Math) represents the United States in the International Mathematical Union (IMU) and promotes the advancement of the mathematical sciences.
The IMU, a member of the International Council for Science (ICSU), is an international, non-governmental scientific organization that endeavors to:
- Promote international cooperation in mathematics.
- Support and assist the International Congress of Mathematicians and other international scientific meetings or conferences.
- Encourage and support other international mathematical activities that contribute to pure, applied, or educational mathematical science development.
The National Academy of Sciences is the U.S. adhering body to the IMU. The USNC/Math operates within the National Research Council's Board on International Scientific Organizations (BISO). Learn more about BISO.

The USNC/Math, the American Mathematical Society, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics jointly sponsor U.S. mathematicians who volunteer their time to teach short courses in the Masters Program at the Royal University of Phnom Penh.
