2000 Public Lecture in Hong Kong
Ronald L. Graham convened a public lecture at the University of Hong Kong entitled Mathematics in the Information Age-Why Study Mathematics. The event was held on February 26, 2000.

Dr. Ronald L. Graham is an eminent mathematician with a distinguished career both in industry and academia. He received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1962. He was Director of Information Sciences from 1962 to 1995, and Chief Scientist from 1996 to 1998 at AT&T Laboratories. Concurrently, he was Professor of Mathematical Sciences at Rutgers University from 1986 to 1999. He is now Chair of the Computer Science and Engineering Department of the University of California at San Diego.
He is well known for his contributions to mathematics especially in the applications of mathematics to real life problems. He is member of the National Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was elected Scientist of the Year by World Book Encyclopedia in 1981, awarded the Polya Prize in Combinatorics in 1972, the Carl Allendorfer Award in 1990 and the Lesher Ford Award in 1991 of the Mathematical Association of America, and the Euler Medal of the Institute of Combinatorics in 1994. He has served on many important national and academic committees. He was President of the American Mathematical Society from 1993 to 1995 and currently serves as Treasurer of the National Academy of Sciences.
