Pacific Rim

Pacific Rim Project to Increase Public Awareness of Mathematics
As an outreach effort to strengthen the field of mathematical sciences in the Pacific Rim countries, the U.S. National Committee for Mathematics initiated a U.S.-Pacific Rim public lectureship series. The main focus of this activity is to collaborate with other Pacific Rim countries by organizing lecture tours by eminent mathematicians who have exhibited a talent in communicating and capturing the attention of young people (including high school students and undergraduates) and the general public. The purpose of these lectures is to describe mathematical advances in non-technical terms while communicating the excitement and challenges of present-day mathematics.
